TEAM SEATTLE’S EVO 2009 ADVENTURE

Ken lookin’ real salty right now

It’s been a little over a week since Evolution 2009 and I know everyone’s been waiting on an article. This will be the first part, wrapping up Thursday and Friday’s events and highlights. I’ll have to write Saturday and Sunday another time, but for now, here’s the recap!

STREET FIGHTER IV: SEATTLE POWER PLAYERS

hood

Rollin’ deep in the set

When I started collecting the brackets from Preppy’s events and posting the complete results here, I noticed the point values on the brackets (used for ranbat scoring), and thought it would be a cool idea to try and tally up all the points players might have “gained” from the tournaments that were run since Street Fighter IV’s console release.

What I did was give each player points based on the number of entrants in each tournament they entered and what they placed in those tournaments, so for example if Cole placed first in a 40-man tournament at Preppy’s, he was given 40 points. For the totals, I took the full results from the last two Preppy’s tournaments and Portland’s Random Select, as well as all the posted top-8 results from the remaining Preppy’s tournaments, Gameclucks, the Afro Dojo tournament, and all the semi-finalists from the Gameworks tournament. Basically anything I could get my hands on.

So, now that you know the method, here is the madness: Clearly the results are not the be-all, end-all rankings. In fact, they essentially mean nothing; They have just as much to do with HOW many tournaments you entered as they do with how well you placed in those tournaments, thus why you see things like Elliott having more points than Scrubbydan or The Future. This was made PURELY for fun, and I’m not presenting it for any other reason than that. Step away from the Gundam.

With that being said, here is the “top 20″:

  1. Jason “A-Dhalsim” Cole – Dhalsim, Balrog – 337
  2. Frank “Frankdadank” Caraan – Bison - 259
  3. Mandel “Deezo” Scott - Chun-Li - 234
  4. Rodolfo “Rowtron” Castro - Dhalsim - 192
  5. Michael “Mickey D” Davis - Ryu – 164
  6. Mark “Guahcsta” Santos - Zangief - 143
  7. Paul “Mynameispaullee” Lee - Sagat - 136
  8. Elliott “Artificialskyy” Gray - Gouken - 133
  9. Daniel “Scrubbydan” Chung - Sagat - 131
  10. Emannuel “Riki-Oh” - Bison - 117
  11. James “Peachy” Siew – Blanka – 114
  12. King “King726″ Takee - Zangief 110

SEATTLEVERSUS @ PREPPY’S 7/3/09

Transformers 2 is a terrible movie.

Things of note that occurred at Preppy’s: Dozens of Team Northwest shirts being distributed, The first BlazBlue tournament, Scrubbydan beasting on everyone in sight during the SFIV tournament, and Pablo drooling copiously on himself and others.

Truly, the last Preppy’s before EVO2009 had something for everyone.

The Street Fighter 4 tournament had another strong turnout, with Scrubbydan coming out of his brief retirement to continue his reign of terror over the Northwest. No matter what’s occurred in the past, the fact is, the guy has won every SFIV tournament he’s entered here, including this night, where he went 3-1, 4-0 against Cole in the winners finals and grand finals. God damn. Guess that’s why he anchors the 5v5, huh?

Downstairs became the most cracking dungeon yet seen at Zach’s with a whopping three setups in three rooms, two devoted to BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, which was released on consoles earlier in the week. 31 brave souls stepped up to mash the drive button as hard as possible in order to achieve TOTAL VICTORY in the inaugural tournament . In end, Trace “Bumfights” Prewitt’s V-13 escaped some epic corner rushdown pressure from Magister’s Rachel and took home the title of Seattle BlazBlue Supreme Grand Champion and the princely tournament pot of $0.00

As usual, Deezo has posted the top 8 results with his commentary on the customary Shoryuken.com thread. Thanks to Zach for continuing to be our gracious host, and to everyone for showing up to play.
