CUSTOM STICK SPOTLIGHT: PHREAKAZOID187

CustomStick copy

This week’s Custom Stick Spotlight features one of the most unique arcade sticks that I’ve ever seen.  Known for his unorthodox modifications, community member “phreakazoid187” brings to us his dual modded Vsmile arcade stick.  Originally used as a children’s play toy, the stick comes full equipped with LED light ups and a dual mod in order to use on PS3 or Xbox360.  So take a look into the zany mind of Clayton Knight aka phreakazoid187, and see some of his most ridiculous works.

The amazing Vsmile stick

Most of Clayton’s works have a “I wonder if it can be done” theme to them.  Instead of taking on projects of what we call the “norm,” he tries to add a bit of extra creativity and imagination.  Putting in that “extra little something” is what makes his projects extra special.  With each and every customization he craves to learn something new with every project.  For higher resolution pictures, check out the gallery at the end of this article.

Clayton first took on this project when he saw Gummowned’s very own Vsmile stick.  In order to progress with his modding skills, Clayton decided to try his own hand at creating a Vsmile stick, with a bit of a twist…add a bit of LED’s to brighten things up and see if it could be dual modded.

“For me, learning and experience > money, because if you have the former, the latter comes naturally with it” – Clayton “phreakazoid187” Knight

Originally used as a children’s play toy for the “V smile TV Learning System,” Clayton successfully turned this play toy into a dual modded arcade stick!  The stick is defaulted to the Xbox 360, however you can change this setting by holding the “enter” button for a few seconds in order for it to work for a Ps3.  Clayton told me that he will be using the stick at a local Blaz Blue tournament in the near future.  Imagine the look on the opponent’s face after they lose to that bad boy! You can find all the details of the Vsmile stick here at his thread. In it you’ll find his step by step walkthrough of the trials that it took to create something so crazy.

This is another project that Clayton pulled out of the magic hat.  Though it isn’t a stick, this particular pad is the first (and only?) “dual modded pad.”  It may look like your typical Xbox 360 fight pad, however in the gallery you can see that the guts have a PS3 board in it as well.  Clayton explained that he’s always been a pad warrior and absolutely hated the Ps3 pad.  What better way to solve the problem by customizing an Xbox 360 controller right?!

If you’ve got any questions for Clayton, or if you’re interested in having some work done by him shoot him a PM on srk or send him a message on Aim at phreakazoid187.  My only question is, what’s next Clayton?  I’m with Gummowned, let’s see you do this one next!
